Happy Halloween!

Here is the Halloween costume we bought Emerson.

She wore it for 5 minutes last night, and I managed to get about 5 decent pictures. At $35 for the getup, this means each picture is literally worth $7. So take a minute and savor each one. (I know I am).

It's just too cold to take her out tonight, so I felt like I needed proof to show her that we DID attempt Halloween during her first year at life. We just failed miserably at it. Or Mother Nature did. Either way.
Why would you size a costume as 6-9 months and then make the hat big enough for a toddler?

She's always clapping! :)

(Mom, doesn't she look SO much like me in this picture? I never think she looks like me, but in this picture I swear she could be my baby twin!!!!)
And now she's distracted by SportsCenter

Renaissance Gal

Indulge me and watch this 30 second video of my daughter being amazing.

In this clip, she shows her plethora of interests. She starts off reading one of daddy's architecture books, then practices her gymnastics by walking across the table, and then hears a happy tune in the background and immediately whips her head around, engages in the song, and dances her tiny tush off.

I just think everything she does is awesome. Biased mom or talent scout??

Yay!!

On a happier note from yesterday's whiney post....

I won Sharee's 200+ follower giveaway! Yipee!! A $20 gift card to Target will soon be in my wallet.

If I could somehow turn that $20 into $2,000, here's what I'd buy...

Practical stuff:

~ A convertible car seat for Emerson
~ Clothes, socks, and shoes for Emerson
~ 12 boxes of Blueberry Morning (only carried at Target in the state of Ohio)

And then after that:

Why can't I be a b&$%h???

Gripe session forthcoming.

Do you ever meet people that just really get under your skin? Like to the point where if they even breathe around you it drives you crazy???

Yeah, me neither.

Ok, so that's not true. Some people bug me. I don't instantly L.O.V. E. every single person I meet. But honestly, I get pretty darn close. I like most people. Even if you don't make a good first impression, I always give people the benefit of the doubt. And 9 times out of 10, I can find the "good" in them. I can look past why I was turned off about their personality at first, and see that I just needed to get to know them better to really get them. Most people are cool.

But sometimes, even the girl who likes everybody has to dislike someone.

It takes A LOT for you to get on my shit list. You have to consistently stomp all over my "benefit of the doubt" theory to make up my mind that you suck. And it just doesn't happen very often. Because I would also like to think of myself as a nice person. Not fake nice, just genuine. Cordial. Friendly. We don't have to be BFFs, but I'm going to treat you with the respect that you deserve as a fellow human being. Therefore, I'm not used to people being not nice to me. Makes sense right? Treat others as you would want to be treated?

So I guess I just don't understand why people seemingly go out of their way to make other people feel bad about themselves. Sure, they may passive-aggressively disguise their comments and actions, but the intent is the same.

"Oh, you climbed a mountain??? That's cute. I climbed five. Yeah I must be stronger than you or something."

Can someone please explain to me how you can get pleasure out of putting someone down? I am just not hard-wired to be that way. I'll admit, sometimes I wish I was. Whenever I'm faced with a comment like the one above, I always think of something witty and nasty to retort back, but I can't say it. I want to, but I can't. I'm no Regina George - I can't say something knowingly hurtful or condescending. I just.can't.do.it. Part of it is that I have always tried to "kill em with kindness." The other part is that it's just not in my nature. I imagine that something condescending coming out of my mouth would look like liquid hot tar (metaphorically speaking), and it would probably sound awkward because I'd be so uncomfortable.

Now, I know that at some point in my life, I've offended people. But I can't remember ever being intentionally hurtful or condescending, and that's the point. You know they know what they're saying or doing, but they do it anyway.

So I have two options: Engage or disengage. Play into it and hope it gets better, or avoid avoid avoid. Neither seems like a great option. Why can't they just be better??? That would solve all the problems :)

This post had no point really. Just venting. Because at the end of the day, I take a look at my life, and realize that someone's hurtful comments really don't affect me. No asinine jabs can take away the fact that I have the closest thing to a "perfect" marriage I can imagine, a beautiful daughter, and a house full of love and affection. You can't take that away from me, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. But sometimes I just wanna go:

Ya feel me?

It's Ok Thursday

... to feel boring lately. Is that a thing? I have just been so busy that I literally work, eat, sleep, and play with Emerson. I have nothing interesting really going on, therefore nothing to blog about. Unless you want a million pictures of Emerson, but I think only the grandmas want that.

... to have eaten a Panera Asiago cheese bagel every morning for the last 10 days. I have a special  mug that is giving me free refills until November, but darnit! They are sneaking in a purchase every day.

... that I buy the same shirts in different colors. I like what I like, yo.

... to spend $40 on your TEN MONTH OLD's shoes and not bat an eyelash, but cringe when you spend $25 on your ow.

... that I also spent $35 on Em's Halloween costume, but have no intention of taking her Trick or Treating because it will probably be too cold and I'm not giving candy to a 10 month old.

... to have the sads that Jef and Emily broke up :( Womp womp. Another one bites the dust.

... to hope that this is the last season of How I Met Your Mother. It's just not funny anymore, but darnit I'm committed to knowing who the mother is.

... to want to go to DisneyWorld despite everyone telling me to wait until Em can "remember it." Who cares, I'll remember it :)

... to wear your socks inside out.

Happy Thursday!

October 15th

Today is October 15th.

October 15th is also known to 1 in 4 women as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Day.

It's a topic that so many people are "afraid" to talk about, but it affects so many lives every single day.

Take some time today to remember all those babies who were born asleep, or whom we carried but never met, or those we have held but could not take home, or the ones who made it home, but didn’t stay.

In memory of our sweet boy Jack Benjamin, and all lost angels ♥

That's Funny Friday

It's back!!!!!!

My daughter is hysterical. I swear she is going to take after her dad and be funny.

Notice how I didn't say "take after her mom and be funny" because I know full well I am not funny. Despite my desperate attempts to try and be funny. (a la Claire Dunphy on this week's Modern Family and her "Post Post Office Traumatic Stress" zinger)

I like to try and make her laugh. Usually she laughs at me when I'm not trying. Like when a song came on the TV and I started headbanging to it. And she went NUTS. Like, laughed so hard she could barely breathe.

So I kept doing it. And she kept laughing. And Jon's watching it all go down, and now he's laughing so hard he is crying. And then I think "Why aren't we recording this?" So he did. And what you are about to see is the tail end of this glorious event, in which all of a sudden Emerson realizes that it's not funny anymore. But I SWEAR she thought it was funny for the 10 minutes before the camera started.

I love her.

And here are some funny things I found on Pinterest to give you the Friday giggles:

The Friday Five

Today I'm following in the footsteps of one of my favorite bloggers of all time, the beautiful Christina over at Hungry Meets Healthy. Her food blog is a daily read of mine, and has been on my reading list since I first started blogging. Her "Friday Five" posts have me laughing and salivating every Friday morning, so I thought I'd join in on the fun.

The Friday Five - 10.5.12
1. What I'm reading:

I just finished reading Divergent, the first in what will be a trilogy. Think of it as the Hunger Games meets G.I. Jane. I read the whole thing in an embarrassing 3 days (my priorities are fine, thanks for asking).

2. What I'm listening to:
Can I just rant for one second??? This may make me sound like an old bird, but popular music today is just terrible. (I picture saying this in a granny voice). But seriously.... I turned on the "major" music station in Columbus yesterday, and heard a tune called "Blow my whistle baby." Are you serious??? I cringe at the fact that 12-year old girls are probably singing along to this garbage. There is only one radio station in our city worth it's salt, and when it's on commercials, I want to cry. It's either CD 102.5 or NPR, and Emerson is not nearly as entertained by the news as the music. She'll learn.

/Rant over.

This is the song rolling through my head this morning (fast forward to :59):

3. What I'm Eating
I've been obsessing over the Starbucks Bacon Egg Gouda sandwich lately, so twice this week I've treated myself to one of those plus a pumpkin spice latte. $8 later, my wallet is lighter but my belly is happy! I will try not to think about the fact that I could have had a Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast for the same price, plus tip.
